Creating a great website for your church involves incorporating features that enhance communication, engagement, and community-building. And yes, it helps to look good too!  However, your presence on the web can come in multiple forms.  Your overall website is one.  Perhaps a member portal is second.  And landing pages for surveys and events are other ways you can reach and engage with members, guests and your broader community.  Here are some ideas to ensure your church’s web presence looks and performs best:

  1. Online Donations: Make it easy for members to contribute financially by integrating a secure online donation system. Provide information on how the funds will be used.
  2. Events Calendar: Keep members informed about upcoming events, services, and activities. Include details such as date, time, location, and a brief description.
  3. Groups and Classes:   Members and guests are looking for ways to interact with your church.  Be sure to make available groups visible online allowing more people to get involved with your church.
  4. Multimedia Galleries: Share photos and videos of church events, baptisms, and community outreach. Visual content can create a sense of belonging.
  5. Clear and Easy Navigation: Organize the content with a user-friendly navigation menu. Include sections like Home, About Us, Services, Events, Ministries, Sermons, Contact, and Donate.
  6. Online Sermons: Provide a platform to stream or download sermons. Consider organizing them by series, date, or topic to make it easy for users to find what they’re looking for.
  7. Volunteer Opportunities: Highlight areas where members can volunteer within the church or community. Include a sign-up form for those interested.
  8. Member Directory: Create a secure, password-protected member directory to foster a sense of community and help members connect with each other.
  9. Blog or News Section: Share updates, announcements, and inspirational content. This can include pastor’s messages, member stories, and community outreach initiatives.
  10. Interactive Maps: Include maps to the church location, as well as any other locations for events or community outreach.
  11. Social Media Integration: Link your website to social media profiles to extend the online presence of the church and encourage sharing of content.
  12. “Prayer Request” and other Contact Forms: Include a confidential form where members can submit prayer requests. This can be directed to the pastor or a dedicated prayer team.
  13. Youth and Children’s Section: If your church has programs for youth and children, dedicate a section to showcase events, activities, and resources for parents.
  14. Resources and Downloads: Provide downloadable resources such as study guides, worship materials, and event flyers.
  15. Responsive Design: Ensure your website is mobile-friendly and accessible on various devices to reach a wider audience.
  16. Don’t forget to use QR Codes:   We are all used to scanning QR codes to get information.  That information can also be your website, your member portal and even specific events or groups.

Remember to regularly update the content on your activities portal and public webiste.   Updated information will encourage engagement and return visits.  Additionally, gather feedback from the church community to continuously improve the site based on their needs and preferences.
